Behind the scenes: moving our source code to Git
Most of our news is about what our software does. This one is about how we build it.
On 31 March we moved the source code for all our Sage 200 add-ons and integrations from Subversion, which had served us well for years, to Git. It is the system most of the software world now uses, and it changes how we work day to day.
For our customers the benefits are practical. Every change to every product is recorded with a description of what changed and why, which makes it easier to answer the question "when did that change, and what else changed with it?". We can work on several improvements at once without them getting in each other's way, and release each one when it is ready. It also gives us a firmer footing for automated builds and tests, which our newer products already use.
None of this changes how you install or update our add-ons. It simply means the work behind them is better organised than ever, and you should see the benefit in how quickly fixes and improvements reach you.
